Emerald Ash Borer
One of the most often asked questions goes something like this. "Does my tree have
Emerald Ash Borer(EAB)? "Are my trees going to die from EAB"? "Can you protect or save my trees from EAB"? The short answer to each of these questions is "YES". 1.
Yes, your ash trees can already be infested with EAB and you not know it. 2. Yes, all your ash trees will die from EAB infestation if they are not treated before it's too late.
3. Yes, I can evaluate your trees for signs and symptoms of Emerald Ash Borer and provide treatment to protect your ash trees from EAB. I use the most current injection products and treatment methods available to protect your trees from the deadly Emerald Ash Borer. *Preventative treatment is always more successful than trying to save a tree that already has a Emerald Ash Borer infestation.

*I have not used this product. However, I have a client that said it worked for him but now he hires me to protect his ash trees from Emerald Ash Borer.

What’s The Best Time To Trim My Trees
When is the best time to trim my trees?
The short answer is always when your trees are dormant. In other words, Winter Months. In the north, winter is the best time to trim because you reduce problems from insect, fungal, and bacterial pests harming exposed tissue left from pruning cuts.
There are times due to scheduling, storm damage and other circumstances that trees must be trimmed/pruned during the growing season. Which always leads to the question of; "DO I PAINT THE WOUNDS?". The short answer is NO. With proper PRUNING cuts made at the Branch Bark Collar on a HEALTHY tree you don't need to cover the cuts. For LARGE cuts or trees not so healthy the answer gets more complicated .

How Do You Sharpen Your Saw Chains?
The first part of the my answer is aways "DON'T RUN YOUR CHAIN IN THE DIRT!" In my experience the fastest way to dull a sharp chain is to saw into the ground or let your chain hit the ground. Black top and concrete is even worse. Even though the bark on a tree naturally contains quite a bit of dust, dirt and sand that gets trapped in the grooves it's still doesn't dull the chain as fast as hitting the ground or trying to cut through wood that has dirt, sand or mud caked on it. The best thing you can do is to keep a sharp chain sharp as long as possible. Eventually you'll have to resharpen your chain no matter how careful you are and i feel that it's easier to do frequent touch up sharping than wait until to chain needs major work to bring it back to shape and get it sharp. Everyone I've ever talked to about this subject has their version of "THE BEST WAY TO DO IT!" Some say you can only use a round file(takes a lot of time and practice to master), others say you have to use a bench grinder(have to take chain off bar every time to sharpen and initial cost can be prohibitive) and others say the only way to get them sharp is to take them into a sharpening service need multiple loops to make it efficient and from personal experience, it may not come back cutting any better than when you sent it in). The correct answer is; what works best for you, and your comfort level and time to learn a new skill. I prefer to use a Dremel tool with the
appropriate size stone and angle guide for touch ups and a quality bench type chain
sharpener to sharpen chains off the bar.

Chain Sharpening Stones (Dremel brand and Oregon brand seem to last the longest. Order the correct size for your chain.)
Bench Grinder For Chains (Hydraulic clamp is well worth the extra money.)
